Joe Can’t Sleep: Preparing for WPFD07

Dang! It’s 2.30am and I have to wake at 8 tomorrow.

Anyway, the band went for our first rehearsal since that Stick It To The Man show which now seemingly aeons ago. And for the 2nd time we again jammed at the super posh and snazzy AkarKarya Studio or Studio AkarKarya, which is located in the Uptown Damansara area and apparently run by the husband of Sheila Majid. Can’t remember his name, but we saw Mass Separation jamming there once and thought that we should check it out.

It’s pretty expensive compared to the usual places we have been frequenting, from Faizal’s in Ampang Point area to the recent GuitarWorkshop in Cheras, run by our friend Robyn (guitarworkshop.com.my). At AkarKarya, one hour it’s RM30 for the No.2 room (they have several rooms) BUT unlike other places mentioned we don’t need to struggle with bad/fake sounding amps, bad leads or confined spaces or crap PA.

You pay a bit more for convenience and most importantly better usage of your precious time. At AkarKarya you plug the guitar in tweak the amp a bit, maybe do a simple tuning run and basically you’re ready to go! And so a one hour slot is a one-hour slot instead of 20 minutes of jam time! I love it!

Bullet said that the room’s too absorbent for the drums though, meaning that the drummer would need to exert more energy that usual, but other than that both me and Fendi would just plug in, and that’s it!

Anyway, tonight we ran through several old tunes from the old albums, some never been jammed before with Bullet but they were all A-OK! We’ll be back there again tomorrow night and run through the newer tunes. Hopefully we’ll have enough songs to play for 45 minutes or somewhere nearby at the WPFD07 on Saturday.
